Torah a Hebrew word which in Jewish tradition has come to signify both the Pentateuch and the entire body of Jewish teachings. The word is derived from a root which means, in its simplest conjugation, to cast, throw, or shoot; but which in one of the derived conjugation signifies, in addition to all the above meanings, to show the way, to give instruction, or to teach.
